On 17 October 2019 a third-tier side put Sporting CP out of the Taça de Portugal here, 2–0. Sporting had not been knocked out of the cup by a club two divisions below them in 70 years.
The complex opened in 1996 and has kept a low profile since. Its one substantial reworking ran from January 2010 to August 2011, with the Municipal Council of Vila Franca de Xira carrying much of the project; the seating plan came out of it broadly as it went in. Published capacity figures differ — 7,705 against 6,932 — for reasons of counting rather than construction: seats against total admission. The line has barely moved either way.
In April 2023 the venue was renamed Complexo Desportivo Pedro Mantorras, after the Angolan forward who played for the club between 1999 and 2001. The name has not displaced the old one in practice: match reports and the club's own references still say Complexo Desportivo FC Alverca. The Angolan connection had shown itself earlier — on 13 January 2008 Angola and Egypt drew 3–3 here in a friendly.
The pitch is natural grass and is being relaid; the surface had deteriorated to the point where the club stopped patching it. Crowd figures stay modest — 3,881 against UD Leiria in 2021–22 is among the larger recent gates.
