Craven Cottage

The name has never changed since 1896, and neither has the site: a cottage built in 1780 gave Craven Cottage its address, and no sponsor has ever bought the right to rename it.

The current shape owes most to two men working a century apart. Archibald Leitch rebuilt the ground in 1904–1905, tearing out the old timber stands that had made the place a fire risk and raising the brick pavilion known as the Cottage, along with the stand that now carries Johnny Haynes's name. Shahid Khan finished the other half of the story between 2019 and 2025, buying a stretch of Thames riverbed to extend the Riverside Stand out over the water — a deal that took the capacity past 28,000.

In between, the ground held onto its river-facing terrace longer than most: the Eric Miller Stand, opened in 1972, only replaced standing room on the Thames bank with seats, and it took the switch to all-seating in 2002–2004 to finish the job, a spell during which Fulham played its home games at Loftus Road while the work was done.

The record crowd, 49,335 for a game against Millwall in 1938, will never be threatened at the current capacity, but the ground has hosted fixtures well above its usual level: an Olympic quarter-final in 1948, a World Cup quarter-final between England and Argentina in 1966, and the 2011 Women's Champions League final. During the Second World War, anti-aircraft guns stood where spectators now do.

The pitch itself is a hybrid surface, reinforced with synthetic fibres to hold up under the volume of use a Premier League ground now demands.
