CSK Gorodskoy

Orsha's ground sits on the street that carries Lenin's name, at number 39, and it has been part of the town's fabric since the middle of the last century.

That naming question is the first thing a visitor notices. The arena answers to CSK Gorodskoy, to CSK Orshansky, and to Gorodskoy Stadion — three labels for one set of terraces above a natural grass pitch. Databases have compounded the confusion by filing the ground in Minsk. It is not in Minsk. It is in Orsha, in the Vitebsk region, and the club's own listing of its facilities puts it there.

The most consequential stretch in its history came at the turn of the century. In the autumn of 1999 the stadium closed for reconstruction, and it stayed shut through two winters, reopening in the summer of 2001. For the best part of two years the town had no ground of its own to go to.

What came back is a compact arena. The listed capacity of 2,582 puts it below the size where a crowd disperses into empty concrete. The playing surface has stayed natural grass rather than artificial pitches.

The address on Lenin Street has not changed through any of it, which is how the ground remains easy to find even under three different names.
