CSK Vitebsk

Formerly: Dynamo Stadium

The stadium began life in 1937 as Dynamo Stadium, and it kept that name through more than four decades of Soviet-era football before a February 1978 reconstruction gave it its present form and a new operator, the Vitebsk regional Dynamo council. That renovation, not the original build, is the date the ground counts as its opening. CSK Vitebsk — the abbreviation stands for the Central Sports Complex — only became the official name on paper on 8 April 2003, when the venue was registered as a state physical culture and sport institution, closing a gap of a quarter of a century between the ground being rebuilt and its paperwork catching up.

It sits on Prospekt Generala Lyudnikova, holds 8,144 spectators on a natural grass pitch, and serves as home to FC Vitebsk. There is nothing unusual in its capacity or its surface; what marks it out in the city is simply that it is the one senior ground Vitebsk has carried forward from the Dynamo era into the present rather than replacing outright.
