Daniel Prodan Stadium

Satu Mare has had only one ground worth the name since the war, and it still carries the year on its walls — building started in 1936, and the gates opened in 1942, which puts it among the older working stadiums in this part of Romania. For seventy-five years it went by a single name, Olimpia, tied to the local club that used it. That changed in February 2017, when the ground was renamed for Daniel Prodan, the Romania international who came through that same Olimpia side before his career took him to the national team and who had died the year before. The switch turned the stadium into something closer to a memorial than a simple venue, and the name has stuck since.

The pitch is natural grass, laid out inside a bowl that holds close to 18,000, on Strada Arenei in the centre of the city. It remains home to ADP Satu Mare, the club now carrying the initials of the ground's benefactor, and the address puts it firmly within walking distance for the city's football crowd rather than out on some ring road.
