Dens Park used to hold nearly three times what it holds now. Crowds of around 31,000 packed the terraces in the 1950s; the Taylor Report into the Hillsborough disaster changed that, banning standing areas at Britain's top-flight grounds and forcing a rebuild that stripped the ground down before it went back up all-seated. The old stands came down, the Bobby Cox Stand and the Bob Shankly Stand went up in their place, and once the main work finished in 1999 capacity had settled at 10,090 — just enough to clear the Scottish Premier League's threshold of 10,000 covered seats. It has since crept up to 11,850.

Part of the ground survived that overhaul. The Main Stand, put up in 1921, carries the signature of Archibald Leitch.

The pitch remains natural grass, with undersoil heating and upgraded floodlights added in 2005, though the drainage underneath is older than that and struggles to cope once the rain sets in.

Dens Park kept its name from the opening match in August 1899 all the way through to October 2023, when a sponsorship deal renamed it the Scot Foam Stadium at Dens Park. That arrangement ran its course in June 2025, and the ground reverted to Dens Park.
