Druzhba Stadium

The ground in the Sveti Georgi park did not arrive by budget line. Work started in 1958 and was carried by donations from people in Dobrich and by their own unpaid labour, laid on the foundations of the pitch that had been there before. When it opened on 25 September 1960, 30,000 people crowded in for the ceremony — well over twice the number that can be seated there now.

The site had held two earlier names. It was Bazardzhik, after the name the town carried between 1919 and 1940, and before that Gloria, after the club that founded it. The stadium that replaced them was called Druzhba and has been called that ever since, through the decades from 1949 to 1991 when the city itself was known as Tolbukhin. The name outlasted the one on the road signs.

Its tenant is PFC Dobrudzha 1919, now in the Bulgarian First League. The seated bowl holds 12,500, and with the standing areas the figure rises towards 23,000.

The rebuilding has come in instalments rather than one project. Between 2006 and 2008 the structure was strengthened to meet UEFA licensing: 6,000 seats replaced, the dressing rooms reworked, an unsafe tower taken down. Sanitary blocks, the tunnel canopy and the press centre followed in 2013, an electronic scoreboard in 2014, leather VIP seating in 2018. New floodlights went up in August 2025.
