Stadium
Dynamo Stadium
Formerly: Dinamo Stadium, Central Dinamo Stadium, Minsk Colosseum
Between 1978 and 1980 the ground got a new central stand, floodlight masts and a scoreboard, all so it could take a share of the 1980 football tournament. The Olympic cauldron was lit here, and Yugoslavia beat Algeria 3-0 in a quarter-final.
Everything since has run the other way. Replacing benches with individual seats in 1999 cut the figure to 34,000. The reconstruction that began in 2012 and finished on 22 June 2018 brought it down again, to 22,246, and left the arena with athletics facilities and the status of national Olympic stadium — which is how it came to stage the opening and closing ceremonies of the second European Games in 2019.
The Belarus national side plays here now.
