The ground has worn two names in living memory before its current one. Built by the Tetovo municipality and opened as the Gradski stadion Tetovo, it became known to a generation of fans simply as "Teteks", after the textile-industry club that made it home from the outset. That nickname stuck for decades, until Ecolog International — the company behind FK Shkendija — took over the concession in 2016 and put its own name on the gates.

The rebuild that followed came in two stages. UEFA's Hat-trick programme funded a new drainage system, roughly 5,000 seats and floodlights in 2015–16, before Ecolog put in close to €7.7m the following year to bring the rest of the ground up to UEFA standard.

Shkendija have used it as their base since the 1990s, for years sharing the fixture list with Teteks and, at times, Renova, while the national team has occasionally borrowed it for friendlies — Albania were beaten 5-1 here in 1994. Most fans still give the address simply as Drenovec, the district on Tetovo's edge where the stadium stands.

Its highest-profile night came in September 2020, when Tottenham arrived for a Europa League qualifier and left with a 3-1 win overshadowed by a row over the width of the goalposts. Since April 2024, the municipality has been dismantling the old stadium section by section, with a new UEFA-standard ground for 12,000, costed at €9.7m, planned to replace it.
