Estadi Mallorca Son Moix

Son Moix was never meant to be a football ground first. It went up for the 1999 Summer Universiade, opening on 3 July that year alongside the games, and only afterwards took on its permanent tenant: RCD Mallorca's first league match there followed weeks later, a home tie against Real Madrid. That order — athletics venue turned stadium, rather than the reverse — still shows in the bowl's shape.

The sponsor's name on the door has changed six times since: Estadi de Son Moix, ONO Estadi, Iberostar Estadi, back to Son Moix, then Visit Mallorca Estadi, and since 2022 the current Estadi Mallorca Son Moix. Underneath the branding, the ground itself changed too — a €21 million refit between 2022 and 2024, overseen by the architect Izaskun Larzábal, on a building whose original design, by Guillem Reynés, cost around €35 million to put up in the first place. Reynés later became club president, which is not the usual career path for a stadium architect.

Capacity sits at 25,736, and the ground has rarely tested that ceiling — its record attendance was set as recently as 16 August 2025, 23,318 for a league visit from Barcelona that Mallorca lost 0-3. The national team has used it sparingly over the years, both the men's side (against Germany, Iceland, Belarus) and, more recently, the women's, including a 2026 fixture against England. Two Copa del Rey semi-finals, in 2003 and 2009, are as close as it has come to hosting the final itself.
