Estádio 1º de Maio

The ground began life under a different owner altogether: the textile firm Fiação e Tecelagem Elni built it for its own workers. When the company went under, the city took the site over, added stands and floodlights, and ran it for a time as Estádio Distrital de Vila Euclides. Then came the years that mattered most: during the military dictatorship the ground was renamed for President Artur da Costa e Silva, a name it carried through the 1970s. That lasted until 1980, when mayor Tito Costa rechristened it 1º de Maio — May Day — a deliberate nod to the workers' rallies the stadium had long hosted, in a city built on factory labour.

São Bernardo FC now holds the concession to run the place. The pitch has staged more than the home side's own fixtures over the years: Paulistão matches, rounds of the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, and one-off visits from clubs like Santos and Criciúma.
