Estadio 9 de Mayo

The date is in the name. Estadio 9 de Mayo opened on 9 May 1939, and for its first three decades it was a modest ground with 5,000 places.

The rebuild that made it a proper arena ran from 1970 to 1974; it now stands at 17,800. Two later projects were driven by tournaments rather than by the local game. In 1993 the ground was adapted for matches at the Copa América, and in 2001 it was rebuilt and extended again for the South American Under-20 Championship.

Four floodlight towers, each 33 metres tall, were installed by Sedemi across 2022 and 2023, and the stands were repainted at the same time.

Since 2023 the ground has carried a commercial name, Estadio 9 de Mayo – Banco de Machala, though the official title is unchanged. The pitch is natural grass, and the entrance sits at Avenida 25 de Junio and Las Palmeras.

Tenancy has changed hands within the city. Fuerza Amarilla SC used the ground from at least 2015 to 2020; Orense Sporting Club , founded in 2009, plays there now.
