Estadio Adolfo Suárez

The name is the story here. When the stadium opened its gates in the autumn of 1976, Ávila built its municipal ground and put his name on it from the first day, not as a later honour tacked onto an existing building but as part of what the place was meant to mean.

Before this ground existed, Real Ávila CF had spent half a century moving between fields around the city — El Pradillo in the 1920s and again in the 1940s, San Francisco through the 1930s, then decades at San Antonio before that pitch closed in 1972. The club spent its last four years before the move playing at a temporary Ciudad Deportiva, waiting for the new stadium to be finished. What opened in 1976 gave Ávila football a permanent home for the first time in that long sequence of departures.

The ground has carried both names since — Estadio Municipal and Estadio Adolfo Suárez interchangeably, depending on who's talking. Six thousand seats is a modest figure for Spanish football, but Ávila is a walled city of modest size, and the stadium has never needed to be more than what the local club requires of it.
