Estadio Algarve
Almancil, Portugal
Formerly: Estádio Intermunicipal Faro/Loulé
Estádio Algarve stands a little way from the coast, set back in the Parque das Cidades complex on the boundary between two municipalities.
It opened in time for UEFA Euro 2004. Three group games and a quarter-final were played there, including the penalty shootout between Sweden and the Netherlands. The match that drew the largest crowd was a friendly between Portugal and the Netherlands in 2013. The ground was also used for the Algarve Cup final and the inaugural Algarve Challenge Cup in 2008.
The pitch is natural grass, cut to the standard 105 by 68 metres. In recent years the available seating has been reduced to 22,000 as sections were closed off for security and operational reasons. The full physical capacity remains higher, but the stadium does not play at its maximum size anymore.
