Estadio Antonio Coimbra da Mota

The land under the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota was given to the club by the man whose name it carries. António José Gonçalves Coimbra da Mota, a former president of the club, handed over the ground; the stadium opened on the first day of 1939 and has been called by his name ever since, without a sponsor ever being attached to it. Before that it was the Campo da Amoreira.

Its fullest evening came on 16 May 1993, when 15,000 people got in to watch Estoril hold Benfica to a goalless draw in the Primeira Liga. Structural trouble and safety rules have pulled the ground back to a little over eight thousand since.

Much of that trouble sits in one place. Farcimar S.A. put up a new North Stand of roughly 3,000 seats in 2009 and 2010, built to UEFA requirements so that the club could play in Europe, and did the work in around sixty days. The stand then failed twice — a partial collapse in 2011, another in 2018 — and was shut, taking its seats out of the count.

When Euro 2004 came to Portugal the ground hosted none of it, and instead served as the training base for Sweden. Portugal have played here since: senior internationals including UEFA Nations League and World Cup qualifying, the women's side against Montenegro in Euro 2017 qualifying, youth fixtures, and rugby for the national team. Benfica have returned too, for Taça de Portugal semi-finals in 2017 and 2021.
