The Estadio Azul sits inside the Ciudad de los Deportes sports complex. The stadium opened in 1946. The pitch is natural grass, cut short and marked with white lines that do not curve.

The ground has played host to the Copa NAFC in 1949 and to finals of the Copa México, but its most lasting feature is its history of shifting tenants. It was known as the Estadio Azulgrana when Cruz Azul called it home, and as the Estadio Azul when sponsorship took over. The name changed again in 2020, returning to Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes after the commercial branding was removed. The capacity is 36,681.

In November 2024 the stadium was closed indefinitely by local authorities after safety certification issues were found in the infrastructure. It reopened on November 7, 2024, under strict regulations that limit events to one per day and require them to end by 23:00. Club América remains the sole tenant; Atlante FC moved to the Estadio Agustín Coruco Díaz in Zacatepec for the Clausura 2025 tournament, and Cruz Azul moved to the Estadio Olímpico Universitario while planning their new private stadium, Punta Azul. The official address is Av. Insurgentes Sur, though some sources specify Indiana 225 within the complex. There is no independent website for the stadium; information is managed via the Club América site.
