Estadio Carlos Dittborn
Arica's stadium was never meant to carry its own name. Built at speed after Antofagasta turned down the job of representing northern Chile at that year's World Cup, the ground was opened before being renamed for Carlos Dittborn, the man who had chaired Chile's organising committee and led CONMEBOL, who died weeks after the doors opened. The municipality renamed the ground for him before the tournament he had shaped was even finished being played there.
The Bicentenario tag attached later belongs to a national commemorative programme rather than any sponsor.
A rebuild between 2012 and 2014, tied to that year's Copa Pacífico, altered the capacity of the ground. The pitch itself has stayed with natural grass throughout, even as plans surface to lay synthetic turf on the training fields alongside the main ground rather than on the field of play itself.
Estadio Carlos Dittborn sits in the district that now shares his name.
