Getafe's ground carries the name of the man who scored its history, then had it stripped from the gates. Estadio Coliseum opened in 1998 as the Alfonso Pérez, replacing the old Estadio de las Margaritas, and kept that name until October 2023, when the club dropped it after sexist remarks by the former striker came to light.

The building itself has followed the club's own rise. Getafe CF's promotion to the top flight in 2004 brought a new roof over the main stand and pushed capacity from an original 14,500 toward its present figure, and for one week in 2010 the ground stepped onto the continental stage, hosting the first-ever UEFA Women's Champions League final, which Turbine Potsdam took past Olympique Lyonnais on penalties, 7-6.

Getafe's own European run reached a quarter-final in the UEFA Cup in 2007-08, and the national side has used the pitch twice for friendlies, against Andorra and later Georgia. None of that changed the fact that this has always been a working stadium rather than a showpiece one, owned outright by the town hall rather than the club.

That relationship now faces its biggest test: work began in June 2025 on a 30-month rebuild, and for the duration capacity drops to roughly 10,500 before a planned rise to 18,500 once it reopens.
