Estádio D. Afonso Henriques

The stadium was renamed after the city's medieval king in 1995.

The old structure was replaced with reinforced concrete under architect Eduardo Guimarães. The Topo Sul end went up fully enclosed, while the other three stands kept only partial cover, and the new façade carries medieval motifs referencing Afonso Henriques himself.

That Euro 2004 rebuild earned its keep. The ground took two group-stage matches that tournament, then returned to continental duty in 2019 for the Nations League semi-final between the Netherlands and England, and the third-place match, where Switzerland and the Netherlands needed penalties to be separated. Portugal's national side has used the venue regularly outside those showcase dates, alongside youth World Cup and European Championship fixtures.

The record crowd dates to 27 April 2008, when 30,000 turned out to watch Vitória lose 5-0 to Porto — a defeat that still holds the attendance mark despite the result. Estádio D. Afonso Henriques stands on Rua de São Gonçalo, natural grass underfoot, and has occasionally stepped outside football altogether, hosting the North Music Festival over two days in June 2017.
