Estadio David Cordón Hichos

Guastatoya is not a city known for anything else in football — the Estadio David Cordón Hichos is the only ground the town has, and Club Deportivo Guastatoya has built its entire history there. There is no rival arena across town, no second stand to compare it against; whatever the club has achieved, it has achieved from this one plot of grass in the Barrio El Porvenir.

The stadium takes its name from David Cordón Hichos, who served as mayor of Guastatoya from 1996 to 2008 and whose tenure overlapped almost exactly with the ground's early years — it opened in 1995, just before he took office. The naming reads less like a ceremonial gesture and more like a record of who shaped the place in its formative period.

With room for 3,100 spectators, it sits at the smaller end of grounds used in Guatemalan top-flight football, which sharpens the atmosphere on matchdays rather than diluting it — a full house here is a tight, close crowd rather than a scattered one. The pitch is natural grass, standard for the country's football, sitting near the Casa del Deportista in the same neighbourhood.

There is little pretence about the place beyond that: no redevelopment tied to a major tournament, no history of hosting finals that would have forced expansion. It has stayed the same modest ground since the 1990s, tied to one club and one town, which is its own kind of continuity in a league where grounds change hands and names more often.
