The name on the stand is younger than almost everything else about the ground. Estadio de la Cerámica has carried it only since 2017, when Вильярреаль tied the arena to the tile and ceramics trade that pays the wages of much of the town. Before that it spent 92 years as Эль Мадригаль — adopted in 1925 — and before that, from its opening on 17 June 1923, it was simply Campo del Villarreal.

Its history is one of repeated enlargement rather than replacement. The ground that opened in 1923 held 3,000. It passed 21,000 in 2005 and 23,000 by 2008, arriving at the present 23,008. The stands went up piecemeal over eight decades, which is why the 2022 rebuild, at roughly €35m, was spent largely on unifying the four separate roofs.

The pitch remains natural grass. The ground sits on Calle Blasco Ibáñez, inside the town.

Spain played Кабо-Верде here in 2008.
