Estádio do Fontelo
Fontelo has stood since December 1928, which makes it one of the older venues still in use in the Beira Alta region, predating almost everything else on the Portuguese football map outside Lisbon and Porto. It has been home to Académico de Viseu without interruption since it opened, a run of continuity few grounds in the second and third tiers can claim.
The pitch has held international weight beyond its size: the stadium hosted matches involving the Portugal national team and staged the final of the 2003 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, a tournament credential well above what its current capacity would suggest. That capacity has shrunk considerably over the decades — older counts put attendance as high as 30,000, while the club's own figures today list room for 6,785, a contraction typical of grounds built for an era of standing terraces later stripped back for seated, all-natural-turf use.
A renovation programme running through 2021 to 2026, backed by roughly €1 million in investment, has kept the ground from simply ageing out of use. The site sits in the Bairro Viscentino district, on Rua Anacleto Pinto, a residential setting rather than a landmark approach.
