The floodlights went up in Araraquara in August 1960, switched on for a 3–3 draw with Ponte Preta , and the neighbourhood around the ground — Vila Fonte Luminosa — lent the place the name almost everyone uses.

There have been two of those. From the opening in 1951 the ground was Estádio Doutor Adhemar de Barros , after the former governor of São Paulo. In May 2023 the Araraquara City Council approved a new official name, Estádio Municipal Olivério Bazzani Filho , honouring the leading goalscorer in the history of Ferroviária . The same law kept the older name where it was already cut into the building: the historic façade and the lighting towers are protected, so both names now stand on the site at once.

Ferroviária have played here ever since.

Palmeiras played home matches here in 2010 while serving stadium bans, and Corinthians have used it too. A rebuild between 2008 and 2009 reworked the infrastructure; the reopening, in October 2009, was a Brasileirão match between Palmeiras and Santo André.
