Before the renovation finished in 2008, the stadium relied on timber to hold its spectators. The ground itself is natural grass, a flat expanse that runs the length of the pitch between the two ends.

The stadium sits at the westernmost edge of San Justo, near the border with Isidro Casanova, at the intersection of Calle José Ignacio Rucci and Calle José Mármol. It has served as the home ground for Club Almirante Brown since its inauguration on June 14, 1969. The name honours the ARA Presidente Sarmiento, a historic Argentine Navy training frigate that served from 1899 to 1939. The capacity is approximately twenty-six thousand, though the exact figure varies between sources. For major matches, the ground is known to fill to capacity. On December 7, 2019, approximately twenty-three thousand people attended the celebration of Almirante Brown's championship win, a day when the concrete and the seats seemed to hold every supporter in town.
