Estadio General Francisco Morazán
A riot in 1974 ended with the ground burning down; the current stadium on Avenida 14 Norte is a rebuild. That is the first thing worth knowing about the Estadio General Francisco Morazán.
On 3 June 2000 Honduras beat Haiti 4–0 here in front of 22,000 — the ground's record crowd, well above the 18,000 it is listed at, and a figure it can still reach when a match warrants it. Four years earlier Mexico had come to San Pedro Sula and lost 2–1.
Between those dates and now the stadium has done steady work as a youth-tournament venue: the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship in 1978, 1994 and 2004, then the Under-17 final in 2015.
The most recent change came between 2023 and 2024. Roughly 45 million lempiras went on LED lighting, air-conditioned dressing rooms with hydromassage, and a GrassMaster hybrid pitch. President Xiomara Castro reinaugurated the stadium on 23 August 2024.
It belongs to Real C.D. España, with C.D. Marathón using it for selected fixtures. The name is not a sponsor's and never has been: it honours General Francisco Morazán. CONDEPOR manages it.
