Ask a Cerro Porteño supporter what to call this ground and you get three answers before the club's own name comes up. It opened on 24 May 1970 as Estadio Adriano Irala and took its present name in 1975.

For thirty-eight years the ground carried an open corner. A land dispute in the south-east sector left that stand unfinished from the start, and it took until 2009 for the bowl to close completely — a detail that shaped how the place looked and sounded for nearly four decades before anyone touched a plan for a rebuild.

That rebuild came in 2015–2017, run by architect Alfredo Angulo at a cost put between 15 and 20 million US dollars. Cerro Porteño reopened the ground on 19 August 2017 with a friendly against Boca Juniors, lost 2-1.

Since then it has carried weight beyond Cerro's own fixtures: the Copa Sudamericana finals of 2019 and 2024 were both played here. It has also hosted crowds of a different kind — Bad Bunny drew around 48,000 in November 2022, a night remembered locally as much for a ticket-fraud scandal as for the show itself.
