Montero sits an hour up the road from Santa Cruz de la Sierra, and Estadio Gilberto Parada is what the town has instead of a share of the bigger city's football. It belongs to Guabirá, whose supporters gave the ground a nickname that carries more weight than any official title — La Caldera del Diablo, the Devil's Cauldron, a name earned on nights when the stands close in on visiting sides.

The confusion around its age is worth clearing up: some records point to 1962, but that date belongs to the founding of Guabirá the club, not the stadium itself, which went up in 1980. It has stayed largely as built since — no expansion has touched the capacity — though the last two years brought the one real modernisation the place has seen, a switch to LED floodlights across four new towers, along with fresh dressing rooms and perimeter fencing.

For CONMEBOL football, the ground plays smaller than its listed capacity, with continental fixtures capped below the domestic figure. That has not stopped it hosting Copa Sudamericana and Libertadores nights alongside the Bolivian league programme. Its clearest moment on a wider stage came in November 2010, when it staged matches of the Copa Aerosur youth tournament, drawing Uruguay, Colombia and Bolivia's under-20 sides to Montero — a Bolivia–Uruguay tie among them, watched by 1,500 inside the Caldera.
