Fortaleza calls it the Castelão. The ground opened in 1973, four years after work began.
The building that stands now is not the one that opened. The Uruguayan firm Vigliecca & Associados, led by Héctor Vigliecca, dropped the pitch four metres and pulled the lower tier in from forty metres off the touchline to ten. A new roof went up over every seat, and the concrete gave way to a glass skin around the outside.
Ferroviário also plays here when its own ground won't do.
