The venue was built on land originally set aside for a community group, but the football club that first used it could not keep hold of the facility. The municipality took over the property and carried out the work. When the stadium opened in 1988, the idea was to create a local home, but the standards for the top flight in Chile eventually left this ground behind. Deportes Limache now plays their official matches in Quillota because the ANFP security rules are too strict for these concrete steps.

The capacity is listed at 3,000, a figure that matches the post-2016 renovations funded by the regional government, yet the stands often feel much emptier. The grounds are named after Gustavo Ocaranza Zavala, a man who coached and founded the earlier club.
