Estadio Independencia

The ground that carries its name straight from independence has been the town's only real football venue since it opened in 1961. There was no earlier arena to replace, no former name to drop — it has been Estadio Independencia from the start.

For half a century the pitch was natural grass. That changed in 2012, when the stadium was refitted with a synthetic surface ahead of CONCACAF Champions League fixtures — the kind of continental fixture that forces a provincial ground to meet a standard it was never built for. The artificial turf has stayed since.

The address on record is loose by design: locals point to the fourth avenue northeast, or simply say it sits across from the city library, in the Barrio Óscar Turcios district. Estadio Independencia holds a modest 7,200, in keeping with a stadium built for a town rather than a capital, and that scale, paired with its unbroken history under one name, is what sets it apart from the newer or repeatedly rebuilt grounds elsewhere in Nicaragua.
