Nova Iguaçu Futebol Clube built the stadium from nothing after Moraes founded the club on 1 April 1990, and the first match there ended 1-0 to the home side, with Alex Faria scoring the opening goal on a ground that held two to three thousand people standing, with no seats at all. The turn came in 2012, when Maracanã emptied out for its World Cup rebuild and roughly 1,800 of its old seats travelled across the city to Laranjão, giving the small ground its current capacity of 1,810.

The biggest crowd on record, 3,100, packed in for a Serie B1 match against Itaboraí that Nova Iguaçu won 2-1. Floodlights arrived later still — Laranjão's first night match came in January 2025, a 1-0 win over Sampaio Corrêa.
