Estadio Joao Cardoso

The ground in Tondela carries the name of the man who gave the land: João Cardoso , whose donation made the pitch possible and whose name the club attached to it on 8 December 1990. Before that it went by Campo do Pereiro , and it had gone by that name since 1933.

The version standing today came out of work finished in 2008. New dressing rooms, new lighting, new stands, and with them a ground fit to receive the Portugal squad, which trained here before UEFA Euro 2008. The reopening followed on 27 May that year, with national team captain Nuno Gomes present. Seven years later a second round of building pushed the capacity from 2,674 to 5,000.

The record has stood since.

The stadium's work is not confined to the first team. It staged the Taça AF Viseu final in 2015/16 and has taken international youth football, including a 2011 Women's World Cup qualifier. In 2016 the ticket office handled sales for a Taça de Portugal final, and that operation was marked by incidents and robberies.
