Estadio Juan Ramón Loubriel
Bayamón, Puerto Rico
Estadio Juan Ramón Loubriel sits in the Cerro Gordo district of Bayamón, Puerto Rico.
It opened in 1974 as a baseball ground for the Vaqueros de Bayamón. The real shift came after the Vaqueros folded, when the municipality paid to lower the field and fix the drainage so the Puerto Rico Islanders could play there. The capacity grew to twenty-four thousand, but what matters more is that it held concerts before the Hurricanes. Madonna played here in 1993, and the stadium fell silent after Hurricane Maria hit in 2017, when the roof leaked and repairs were delayed.
On the pitch the surface is natural grass, and the stands sit close enough that the crowd can raise the tempo when they need to. The local fans picked one up last week against Inter Miami to set a new record of twenty-four thousand, but that was just a friendly. The club stays in the lower leagues now, but the ground remains the only place in Bayamón that can fit a crowd this size. It hosts the Puerto Rico national teams and the local league, and it will stage the first Puerto Rico Bowl next year.
There are no former official names and no carved-out history in the concrete. The masts still lean the same way they did when the Vaqueros left. The address is at the intersection of Route 2 and Route 5, where the traffic is heavy and the lights burn late. It is not a temple of football, but it is a stadium that has lived through a hurricane and kept its roof on.
