Estadio Julio Cesar Villagra

El Gigante de Alberdi sits in the Alberdi neighbourhood of Córdoba, Argentina. It dates to the time when the club borrowed money from the Municipalidad to build it, and the architect Alfredo García Voglino drew the plans in 1928. The main stand still carries his name, Tribuna Cuéllar, though the east end has grown since the "Masterplan Gigante" filled out the shape.

What gives the ground its character is the way it holds its spectators. That is not a temporary arrangement; it has been that way since the corner section facing Arturo Orgaz and Tablada streets was built in 1997. The club lost its home for a spell, leaving for Hualfín street in 2013, but returned when the renovation was finished. The capacity sits at 38,500, a number that grew from the acquisition of land next door.

It is a working stadium, not a showcase. The matches played here have generally been local affairs—the Torneo Regional Final in 1986, a Copa Sudamericana tie against Vélez Sarsfield—but the scale of recent events has changed. The women's final between Belgrano and Racing drew a crowd of 26,500, which made it the third-largest gathering for an Argentine women's game. The ground has kept knocking on the door for bigger things, but for now it remains the largest venue in the province owned by a single club, anchored to the street since 1929.
