Estádio Luís Filipe Menezes
Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal
The Estádio Luís Filipe Menezes sits in the Olival parish of Vila Nova de Gaia, tucked inside the CTFD PortoGaia training complex. Built in 2002, it was designed by Alcino Soutinho at a cost of €16 million before being leased to FC Porto for fifty years. The ground was named for Luís Filipe Menezes, the Municipal Council President at the time of its inauguration, who later became Mayor.
The capacity has remained steady at 3,800 seats, with no significant structural renovations altering the footprint since the first match. FC Porto B uses the pitch for Liga Portugal 2 fixtures, and the surface is natural grass, a quality that has seen the venue rank highly in the Liga Portugal SABSEG. Occasionally the ground hosts other teams, like FC Paços de Ferreira, when a main stadium’s pitch falls into disrepair.
There is a quiet tension in the attendance figures. While some records cap the crowd at 779, MaisFutebol claims the highest attendance was 896 spectators during a Segunda Liga clash between FC Porto B and Penafiel. The venue has also seen FC Porto B face Varzim in January 2021, a match played away from the usual Estádio Dr. Jorge Sampaio because that pitch was in poor condition. The stadium has no former official names, though the wider complex was once called CTFD Olival/Crestuma before being renamed CTFD Jorge Costa in 2023.
