The pitch is natural grass, and the lines are cut with care.

When the floodlights come on, the atmosphere changes. The stands glow with thousands of phone screens, a sea of light that stretches across the tiers. An inflatable tunnel marked Brasileirão sits on the touchline, a reminder of the stage the club has played on. The taxi waiting outside on Ubaldino do Amaral street is a small detail, but it places the stadium in the life of the city.

It has hosted matches that mattered. The second leg of the 2011 Copa do Brasil final was played here, a game that kept Coritiba in the hunt. It has also seen pop stars and a papal mass, events that belong to a wider world. For the local supporter, though, it is simply the ground where the team plays. It has been expanded and remodelled, but the shape remains the same, and the view of the city has not changed.
