Estadio Manuel Marques

The ground at Rua Cândido dos Reis exists because Sport Clube União Torreense spent eight years negotiating for the land. When the talks finally ended, the club's leadership built the place itself. It opened as Campo das Covas , and kept that name until 1969, when it was renamed for Manuel Marques, a former president of the club.

What it can hold has shrunk as the century turned. Older records put the figure at 12,000; current safety rules and the state of the infrastructure allow roughly a fifth of that. Recent fixtures have drawn crowds in the region of 1,300.

Ownership changed hands in 2008, when the Câmara Municipal de Torres Vedras bought the property. The council owns it now and leases it back to the club that built it.

Torreense won 2-0 and held their nerve to reach the final against Sporting CP — the club's first final in seventy years. The previous one, the 1955-56 defeat to FC Porto , was played at the Estádio Nacional, so Manuel Marques had no part in it.

The surface is natural grass. Beyond domestic football, the ground takes on little: its size and its position rule out international fixtures and large concerts alike.
