Estadio Monumental José Fierro sits in San Miguel de Tucumán.
The ground has been here since 1922, which means it has watched the city change around it. It was originally called "Grand Stadium" because of its size relative to the province, a name that stuck until 1938 when it was rechristened to honour José Fierro, one of the founders of Club Atlético Tucumán. A new stand with 2,700 seats and VIP boxes went up in 2009, more boxes followed in 2016, and sectors three and four, adding another 2,600 seats, were completed in 2019. The pitch itself has always been natural grass.
It is the largest stadium in northwestern Argentina. The Argentina national rugby team has played here — against Scotland in 2010, against France in 2012 and 2016, and against Ireland in 2014 — and the local Tucumán rugby team has hosted touring sides from England, New Zealand, South Africa and Australia over the decades. Concerts have also taken place on the same grass that hosts the football: Mambrú in 2003, 2 Minutos in 2005. The centenary was marked on May 21, 2022, with legends, musical shows and a light show. The official attendance record is unclear, though matches against River Plate in April and May 2017 drew over 25,000 people.
