Estadio Municipal de La Florida

The Estadio Bicentenario Municipal de La Florida sits in one of the city’s quieter quarters. When the stadium opened in November 2008 it was built to host the final of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, a tournament that finished here in December of that same year. The original municipal ground had stood on this site since 1986, but it was demolished to make way for the new venue. Audax Italiano has played here since 1987, first at the older stadium and then at this one, holding administration rights through a long-term loan from the municipality. The stands hold roughly 12,000 people, though the exact count shifts depending on which measure you trust. The seating is painted in blocks of colour that catch the light differently at various times of the day, and the terraces slope gently toward the pitch. Concerts have also graced the field. System of a Down played here in October 2011, and Green Day brought their tour to Santiago two years earlier. These shows sometimes draw crowds larger than the stadium’s regular capacity, but the architecture holds up to them.
