Estádio Municipal Glicério Marques
Macapá, Brazil
Formerly: Estádio Municipal de Macapá
The Estádio Municipal Glicério Marques sits in the Central district of Macapá, but the name on the door often reads **Complexo Esportivo Glicério de Souza Marques**. Locals still call it **Glicerão**. The ground holds a specific place in Brazilian football history because it opened on January 15, 1950, five months before the famous Maracanã. That pedigree matters here, even if the current reality is quite different.
After closing for official matches in 2014, the venue underwent a major transformation. The renovation cost roughly R$ 13 million and turned a simple football pitch into a multi-sport complex. The project added an athletics track, swimming pools, and a rock climbing wall. The stadium reopened on February 17, 2024, with a match between Oratório and EC Macapá. It now serves as a community sports center for over 20 modalities.
The 75th anniversary was celebrated on January 15, 2025. Legendary players like Garrincha and Romário have visited the pitch in the past, but today the focus is on local competitions. The venue hosts matches for the Campeonato Amapaense as well as Série C and Série D fixtures. The capacity is listed at 5,630 seats. The surface remains natural grass, measuring 105 by 68 meters.
The address is Avenida Mendonça Júnior, 1502. While the original football-only purpose has faded, the facility remains a central point for public activity in the city. The stadium fell silent for nearly a decade during the works, but the noise has returned. It is not a temple of football in the traditional sense, but it is a community hub that has survived the closure and the rebuild.
