The Estádio Municipal Jonas Duarte opened on 11 April 1965 under mayor Jonas Ferreira Alves Duarte, and São Paulo marked the occasion by beating a city select side 4-1, Paraná scoring the ground's first goal. It has carried the mayor's name ever since, with no earlier alias on record.

Its record crowd dates back to 26 March 1978, when 19,640 people packed in for a Série A goalless draw between Anapolina and Corinthians — a number the venue has not matched since. That rebuilding ran in stages rather than one campaign: a 2015-2016 project poured over a thousand cubic metres of concrete into a new three-tier stand and closed the bowl. By March 2025, with the new stand finally open, capacity for the Goianão semi-finals and final between Anápolis and Vila Nova stood at 9,990.
