Estádio Municipal Juca Sampaio
Palmeira dos Índios, Brazil
Formerly: Estádio Edson Amaro
The Estádio Municipal Juca Sampaio stands on Rua Vinte de Agosto in the district bearing the name of its original builder. The ground sits low in the landscape of Palmeira dos Índios, a town in the state of Alagoas.
Clubs come here when their own bases are unavailable. ASA and Jaciobá Atlético Clube have used the pitch during renovations, but CSE (Clube Sociedade Esportiva), founded in 1947, is the permanent resident. The club's history runs deeper than the concrete. It was then called Estádio Edson Amaro, a name the town still recognises.
There is no shortage of other grounds in the region, but this one holds its own. The capacity is listed in two different ways by anyone who bothers to count: five thousand seats or eight thousand, depending on which database you trust. The numbers are not important enough to argue over; the ground fits the town. Natural grass covers the field. The Municipal Government owns the land, and the club plays on it, which is how it has always worked in this part of Brazil.
