Estadio Municipal Reina Sofía

Ownership shapes this ground more than most: Estadio Municipal Reina Sofía belongs to the Ayuntamiento de Salamanca, not to either club that plays there, and the rebuilding saga shows what that split can mean. Alvac S.A., a firm from Segovia, won the tender to redo the stadium in 2019, but work fell behind and eventually stalled. Things came to a head at the end of 2020, when the town hall tore up the contract before the job was finished. A first official match went ahead anyway, on 26 September 2020, and the rebuilt ground only opened in full for the 2021/2022 season.

The pitch tells a similar story of who paid for what. It went down as artificial turf during the rebuild and stayed that way until the Royal Spanish Football Federation set a natural-grass requirement for clubs in the Primera RFEF. Unionistas de Salamanca CF covered the replacement themselves, around 300,000 euros, after the municipality declined to fund it. Unionistas and Real Salamanca Monterrey CF have shared the ground since 2019, both settling in as tenants once the works were finally done in 2021.

The record night here, though, belongs to neither of them. On 18 January 2024, Unionistas hosted FC Barcelona in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey and went down 1-3, with 6,246 people packed inside.
