Estadio Municipal de Nasca
The view of the Estadio Municipal de Nasca is defined by the contrast between the desert floor and the rebuilt structure.
Its history is written in the architecture. The older photograph shows the raw skeleton of the cantilevered stand, its roof collapsed and cracking, a scar from the 1996 earthquake. The rebuilding was a painful process, first renaming the ground Estadio 12 de Noviembre to mark the tragedy, before the name was eventually dropped in 2013. The current structure is the result of a renovation commissioned by the municipality, completed just before the ground was re-inaugurated.
The pitch is natural grass, surrounded by a running track, and the stand is small enough to feel close to the action. Santos FC Nazca plays here in the Liga 2, and the ground has frequently hosted stages of the Copa Perú, including matches involving Defensor Zarumilla and Juventud Guadalupe. The capacity is 10,000, but the atmosphere is often determined by who is playing and what is at stake.
