The Estádio Nacional de Ombaka stands in an open field, not tucked away in a city centre. Its most striking feature is the way it was built for a deadline. It was completed in time for the 2010 African Cup of Nations, with the opening match — Egypt 2–1 Nigeria — played on 12 January 2010. It is the only stadium in Angola where the national side plays its home games, and it holds 35,000 spectators on a playing surface of natural grass. The entrance lies off Estrada Nacional 100, near the city limits of Benguela.

The architecture is functional rather than ornamental.
