Estadio Nacional Pedro Marrero

The stadium was commissioned by Julio Blanco Herrera, the brewer behind Cervecería La Tropical, to serve as Havana’s premier baseball venue. It opened on October 10, 1930, initially carrying the name Gran Estadio Cervecería Tropical. The original capacity was approximately 20,000, but the site has grown over time. After the 1959 revolution, the facility was nationalized and renamed to honour Pedro Marrero Aizpurúa, a revolutionary who died in the 1953 attack on the Moncada Barracks. It now serves as the headquarters for the Cuban Football Association and the home of the Cuba national football team. The playing surface is natural grass, though reports indicate the condition is often poor, with bare spots visible across the pitch.

The venue has hosted significant events, including matches during the 1982 Central American and Caribbean Games and fixtures from the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2005, 2007, and 2009. It also saw a historic friendly on June 2, 2015, between the New York Cosmos and the Cuban National Team, marking the first professional U.S. soccer visit since 1978.
