The stadium is in Toluca. Estadio Nemesio Díez opened on August 8, 1954, when Toluca lost to Dinamo Zagreb 4–1. The grass covers the pitch.

The name changed many times — Héctor Barraza, Luis Gutiérrez Dosal, Toluca 70 — before it settled on Nemesio Díez in June 2000. Fans call it La Bombonera because they like to say it looks like Boca Juniors' stadium, though the shape is flatter and the view is less dramatic.

It hosted four World Cup matches in 1970, including the quarter-final where Italy beat Mexico 4–1, and three more in 1986. A renovation finished in 2017 added a second tier and pushed the official capacity up to that number.

The ground sits on Felipe Villanueva Street, near the San Bernardino quarter. When Toluca are staring at the drop the traffic outside gets heavier and the fans bring more candles. When they are dominant in the air from set plays the street is quiet and the windows are shut.
