Estadio Olímpico de Ibarra
Ibarra's Estadio Olímpico goes by two names in the province, and locals still reach for the older one, Estadio Olímpico Municipal, more often than not — a habit left over from the years before the ground changed hands. It opened on 4 August 1988 under municipal ownership, and the same date reappears seven years later for a different reason: the Federación Deportiva de Imbabura took the stadium over from the city, rebuilt it, and reopened it on 4 August 1995, the anniversary standing in for a ribbon-cutting.
The pitch is natural grass, ringed by a synthetic athletics track, which places the ground in that familiar Ecuadorian category of venues built to serve both a football club and a regional sports federation's wider athletics programme rather than football alone. There is no dedicated club site or matchday operation built around the stadium the way there might be at a single-tenant ground; it functions instead as Imbabura's shared civic arena, sitting on Avenida Víctor Manuel Peñaherrera at its junction with Jaime Roldós.
At 18,600 seats, it is not among Ecuador's largest venues, but for a provincial capital the size of Ibarra it covers what the city needs — federation athletics meets, occasional football fixtures, the kind of use that keeps a track-and-field stadium relevant decades after its original construction. The 1995 reconstruction is the detail worth holding onto: a stadium handed from one authority to another, then rebuilt rather than simply renamed.
