Estadio Olímpico de Riobamba

Construction ran round the clock for five weeks in early 1926, five hundred labourers on site, so the city could open it in time for Ecuador's first National Olympiad — the running track was the work of Arcesio and Alfredo Altamirano, the stand built under two Italian brothers, Natale and Lucas Tormen, who had settled in the city. That original bowl held around 2,000. It has carried four names since: municipal through the 1970s, then handed by the city to the Chimborazo sports federation in 1973 and rechristened for the mayor who pushed the transfer through, Fernando Guerrero Guerrero — a name it wears again today, having reverted to it in March 2016, though most broadcasts still just call it the Olímpico de Riobamba.

The stand as it now stands dates to 1995, rebuilt for FIFA's World Youth Championship, which brought Nigeria, Qatar, Australia and Spain through the city for six group games and fixed capacity at 14,400 — a figure some newer listings inflate toward 19,000, but the 1995 FIFA paperwork is the one worth trusting. During that tournament the ground took crowds past its own official limit, up to an estimated 20,000. It has since hosted South American youth championships at Sub-20 and Sub-17 level and a women's Sub-20 tournament, alongside a steady run of Copa Ecuador fixtures. A stand roof partly came down during building work in 1983; nobody was hurt. Centro Deportivo Olmedo play their Serie B football here, and Ambato-based Mushuc Runa have used the ground for its capacity when demand or CONMEBOL fixtures outgrow their own.
