Estadio Olímpico Guillermo Albornoz

Football has never really lived here. The most solid line in the record is a reconstruction date, 2005, treated locally as the ground's proper opening — though the pitch was already hosting Cuniburo FC, a club founded back in 1992.

Cuniburo, since renamed Vinotinto del Ecuador, called the Olímpico Guillermo Albornoz home from 2017 to 2022. Promotion changed that. Once the club reached Primera B and then Primera A, its fixtures moved north to Quito's Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa. The 2025 season found the team back in the capital again, in the top flight, with a return to Primera B pencilled in for 2026. What is left in Cayambe belongs now to Sociedad Deportiva Rayo, playing out its fixtures in the provincial Segunda Categoría de Pichincha.

That brief touch is worth recording. In the second half of 2019, Liga Pro sent fixtures this way: América de Quito beat Técnico Universitario 2-0 here on 31 August, and three weeks later, on 21 September, Emelec won 2-1 on the same pitch.
